Vestibular Rehabilitation is an inner ear disorder with a number of different symptoms. For instance, it can affect your ability to maintain balance, nausea, vertigo, hearing changes, difficulty concentrating, fatigue, and anxiety. There are several causes and types of vestibular disorders that is best determined by your physician, but BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo) is the most common. BPPV is the cause behind roughly 20% of all dizziness.

Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy (VRT) has been a successful tool in retraining the brain to recognize and process signals from the vestibular system.

Premier Physical Therapy’s VRT program would begin with a detailed evaluation. The Physical Therapist will measure your balance and gait, posture, and ask about your medical history. Then develop a plan of care customized to each patient that would incorporate exercises in therapy as well as at home. The most commonly seen exercises in VRT are gaze stabilization and balance retraining. Exercises developed while sitting, standing, and walking are also used to help you control dizziness during your everyday life.
